New Holiday Card Design

December 4th, 2009

Okay y’all, it’s officially December! Whether you’ve been holding out until your turkey digested to start thinking about the holidays, or you’ve been humming Jingle Bells since Halloween, now is the time to get your holiday cards ordered!

To ring in the month, our designers just unveiled the precious Peace Tree card. We love the pint-sized charm of this petite, folded card. (Look closely to glimpse the fun detail of a tiny bird tweeting on the tree branch.)

Remember you’ll need to factor in time to stuff and mail your holiday cards once you receive them, so don’t delay!

Though TGK co-owner Melissa was lamenting the early presence of Christmas music in a shop she visited just after Halloween, in truth the holiday spirit has descended on the TGK studios with a force! Holiday card orders have been pouring in for some time and the design team is having a field day with crafting some beautiful new motifs for the 2009 holiday season.

Here’s a preview of our latest holiday designs. I’m a traditional gal, so I love showing them in the classic holiday colors, but you must check out the other color palettes our fab designers have created for the season! Just click on the photo to see the other options available for each design. Or visit our full holiday collection for even more one-of-a-kind seasonal greetings!

Drum roll please! TGK designs are now available on OneWed!

We love the trend of creating a unique, personalized website to be your “online concierge” for your guests. Face it, these online tools make it much easier for busy brides to stay connected with friends and family throughout the crazy wedding planning process. Aunt Rosie can check your site for detailed updates on the plans, to triple-check the name of the hotel, and to scan through photos of you and your honey, (and maybe check out pics of the future in-laws!).

These days, brides have tons of choices for FREE wedding websites and TGK just partnered with OneWed, which offers more than 70 unique designs. They also have piles of helpful tools to make the design process super simple for those of us who aren’t techies. The photo above shows the first set to “go live” on their site. You’ll find more TGK-exclusive designs unveiled on OneWed, in the coming weeks. Go check ‘em out, and let us know if you select a TGK-designed site motif. We’d love to feature YOUR wedding Web site in a future blog!

Circles and Dots Holiday Card in Festive Red

Our October promotion (FREE customized photo holiday cards!) has got us thinking about some of the inspired holiday photo cards we’ve received in the past. Without a doubt, some of our favorite pictures feature couples and families that go beyond the typical “say-cheese” happy-family images and go for something a little more … interesting.

I have a friend who, in her never-successful quest for a “good” family photo with their three year old, opted to send out the holiday card with a picture of her and her husband smiling away and their daughter screaming her head off! Hands down, it was my favorite card of the season.

But even if you don’t have the benefit of an un-cooperative tot, there are still plenty of creative ways to get your Christmas card photo a sure-fire spot at the top of the coffee table heap.

Background: Friends who moved frequently in the early years of their marriage began a tradition of taking the Christmas photo in front of a recognizable landmark in whichever city they lived at the time. It was a great annual peep into their exotic life in distant locales! If you go this route, be sure to indicate somewhere on the card (or in an accompanying letter) where you are in the photo so your friends get the reference!

Props: My hubby and I jokingly donned Santa hats in our first Christmas photo as a married couple, and our families loved the whimsy of that simple prop so much that the hats are now a key feature every year. Another successful prop – and an effective announcement tool! – are tiny baby booties to clue your friends in to an impending arrival!

Wedded Bliss: Of course, since we work with so many brides, we love the idea of including a wedding photo on your first Christmas card. We’ve even seen couples with enough forethought to plan a wedding-day photo standing under a sprig of mistletoe, with Santa hats, and even with an angel halo and devil horns (the old naughty-and-nice).

What will you do to make your holiday card photo memorable?

As is so often the case in the Internet surfing I call “business research,” I’ve come across another idea of something I wish I’d done for my own wedding all those years ago.Wonderful Graffiti Wedding produces designs, monograms, meaningful quotations – pretty much anything you can think of – on very thin pieces of matte vinyl that can be easily attached to (and easily removed from) smooth surfaces. I love the idea of customizing a focal wall in a reception site with the new couple’s monogram! Or carrying an element of your wedding theme (a customized graphic from TGK of course!) even further by enlarging and posting it where guests enter. You can even have your menu printed and displayed on the wall behind the buffet! Endless possibilities …

Check out Wonderful Graffiti Wedding and let us know if you decide to “tag” your wedding with some graffiti of your own!

Hey Ladies (and the occasional gentleman)! Things at The Green Kangaroo have been rocking and rolling, and unfortunately, yours truly has been slacking on the blog updates. We have been working feverishly to make ordering on our website even easier for future brides and have been on a “design binge”. We are super excited about our new design ideas. Here two new concepts that have been a hit already – The Swirls Wedding Invitation

and the Citrus Wedding Invitation

We have also launched a brand new line of personalized holiday cards. Just got married this year? Why not show off your new status by sending out a personalized holiday card to all of your friends and family. Start a tradition that will last a lifetime!

First Year Anniversary Gift

June 18th, 2008

Sunday marked six years that my husband and I have been married, but because it was also Father’s Day – AND my husband’s very first father’s day (here’s the little princess and her daddy) we are celebrating this weekend instead. I started thinking about what we had given to each other for our past anniversaries and realized that we haven’t paid much attention to the traditional (or modern) gift ideas list.

For instance, paper is the traditional gift item for the first anniversary (listen up husbands) and The Green Kangaroo has just added personal stationery to our website. So, keep those monograms and favorite graphics from your wedding day alive by choosing this very customizable form of personal stationery for your spouse.

Because we have so many requests for postcard style save-the-dates and reply cards, we are thinking of introducing a new type of personalized note – a “thank you postcard” (especially since you now pay almost the same amount for a regular stamp as you do for a pack of crackers!). Post your comments about this idea and be on the lookout for the new designs!
